Our free, weekly afternoon jazz concert series featuring different musicians every Saturday.

This week’s musicians: JazzSynergy

When fellow members of Triangle Jazz Collective, Jim Eastwood (piano) and Ed Kincade (guitar), began discussions about forming a dynamic jazz sextet for club and performance hall dates, the search was on for quality talent. And, the results have been impressive:

Paul Meade (drums) – Paul is an explosive, high-energy drummer who brings years of experience “to the table.” This engine won’t be slowing down anytime soon, with Paul at the helm!

Steve Lucente (trombone) – A welcome addition to the group, Steve also performs with The Heart of Carolina Jazz Orchestra along with local stalwart Gregg Gelb, plus with the trombone quintet Slide Effects. With his varied musical knowledge and training, Steve is appreciated as contributing to the musical direction of the group, and continues to create some of the arrangements.

RJ Pitts (tenor saxophone) – If you ever take the time to look-up the phrase, “the cat’s got chops for days” you’re likely to see Ron’s picture!!

Kevin Beardsley (bass) – Currently studying with the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill’s jazz studies program, Kevin has had the opportunity to perform with several jazz luminaries, including George Benson protégé and current jazz stand-out, Mark Whitfield. Kevin is already becoming a solid and dependable staple on the local jazz scene.

JazzSynergy performs straight-ahead jazz and is becoming a regular fixture at The Strowd in Chapel Hill. In addition to their upcoming performance at The Station in Carrboro on April 15th, they are scheduled to perform at Circa 1888 in Raleigh on June 10th. This summer you can also find them “under the tent” at the Chatham Hill Winery.
